Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Hip Bone work on bows with Roller Guards?

Yes, the ball adapter can be screwed into the stabilizer insert. We are working on an adapter mount that connects to the actual roller guard. It should be out soon.

Do you make a SABO sight with more that 3 Dots? How do I get more yardage points?

At this time, we are only producing single and 3 dot sights. However, you can extend your range if you eliminate your peep sight. Basically, with no peep, you sight the top dot to the tip of the lens triangle for your first yardage point. Then, you sight in your middle dot yardage and your bottom dot yardage, always with the top dot on the tip of the lens triangle. To increase yardage, you drop your anchor slightly so that the middle dot touches the tip of the lens triangle. This will increase your bottom dot yardage by roughly 10 yards. If you drop the tip of the lens triangle to the bottom dot, you have increased the bottom dot's original yardage by 15-20 yds depending on arrow speed. If this doesn't have you satisfied for distance, stay tuned, as we will have a 3 dot sight with a dialable 3rd dot that will be coming out next year.

Do you make the SABO in Left Handed Models?

Unfortunately, the sight is not available in left handed models at this time. We do have prototype versions and hope to have left handed models in our next production run. We hope to have these out before hunting season. We will keep your email address and notify you when these are available.

How does rain or snow affect the SABO?

We've been testing this sight now for 3 years and never had an issue with rain or snow. I took one on a caribou hunt with me in northern Canada. I chased caribou for 6 days and it rained on me every day. I filled the sight with rain and mud. With rain, it basically looks just like your sunglasses do when it's raining. The dots are not affected by the rain, nor is the accuracy. With mud, simply wipe it off with your thumb and your ready to shoot. You can clean it up with a lens cleaner later. Snow just brushes out of it.

Do you have any issues with the SABO lens fogging up?

As with any lens (your rangefinder or binoculars included), the lens will fog up when you move from a very warm environment to a cold one (like when you leave the camp house on a cold day). However, due to the large surface area of the SABO lens, it assimilates and de-fogs even faster than the smaller lenses in your rangefinder or binoculars. So, if you can see through your rangefinder, you can definitely see through the SABO.

How do I know if my bow will require a shim?

It is not a common occurrence, but the issue that we see with some Mathews (and a few others) bows is that you will run out of room for lateral adjustment when you are trying to move the top dot to the tip of the triangle. This is because when the cams roll over, it twists the riser with respect to the string, and angles the sight to the right of your target. We can provide a small shim that angles the sight back to the target if you are experiencing this problem. If you experience this issue, please contact us for this shim, or you can purchase one from our website.

Is there any bow that will not work with the SABO?

The only bow that we have found that does not work with the SABO is the 2010 PSE X-Force Axe 6. The Axe 7 works fine. However, the Axe 6 has one of the cables so close to the riser that there is not enough room for the rear projection housing to fit between the riser and that cable. The 2010 PSE X-Force Axe 6 is the only bow thus far that will not accommodate a SABO sight.

How big are the dots in the SABO?

The fibers that we use for the SABO are actually 0.010" diameter. However, due to the zero-parallax design, the concave lens magnifies the dot to produce an image that we estimate to be about the size of an 0.020" sight pin.

Do you have an LED available for the SABO?

The SABO will accommodate a standard 7/16 course thread LED. Tru-Glo, G-5 and Purple Haze all make one in this size. Cabela's and Academy Outdoors both sell them as well as most local dealers. Unfortunately, we do not have our LED in production at this time, but we are working on it, and will keep you posted.

How does the SABO work in low light?

The SABO works exceptionally well in low light conditions. Due to the zero-parallax design, the concave lens actually magnifies the fiber images as well as the fiber intensity. So, it actually lasts longer in low light than most fiber optic sights. However, night hunting and pop up blind hunting do require an LED.

Will the SABO work in a Pop-Up Blind?

Because of the absence of natural light in a Pop-Up blind, the SABO requires an LED on the brightest setting for Pop-Up blind hunting.
